Module 57, General Medical Level
This patient is a 12 year old Black Female who presented with complaints
of left knee pain on the medial aspect of the proximal tibia. It was described
as a dull, aching pain present for one year's time. Occasionally the pain
awakened her from sleep and occasionally worsened with sports activities.
Her past medical history was unremarkable. There was a questionable family
history for "bony tumors". Physical examination revealed full
range of motion of all her extremities. She was neurovascularly intact.
DTR's were normal and symmetric. Palpation at the left knee revealed an
asymptomatic mass at the distal femur medially and a painful protrusion
at the medial proximal tibia.
Question 57A

The history and pain pattern is consistent with a bone tumor.
Question 57B

The
history of multiple bone tumors is a significant piece of information.
Question 57C

The
first study to be ordered in the work up of this condition is a standard
x-ray.
Question 57D

There
is a high possibility that this is malignant.
Question 57E

The
pain from this is most likely due to bursitis not the bone tumor itself.
