The scoliosis is best correlated with the presence of thoracic or thoracolumbar vertebrae abnormalities (i.e. hemivertebra) than the lumbosacral defect. However, scoliosis may occur when an asymmetrical spino-pelvic "joint" is seen, or a part of the sacrum remains in the pelvis.
