Double coalitions have been reported but they are very rare. CT scans are the best way for being sure that a second coalition is not present. Good x-rays (Harris views) of the talocalcaneal joint should be obtained as a minimum but the definite need for a CT scan should be based on the individual patient and surgeon's concerns.
