Bilateral slips are common (25%) but there are complications from placement
of hip pins. It is not generally felt to warrant the risk to pin 3 normal
hips for one slip which can usually be picked up very early in the process.
For this child at his three-month follow-up visit, the patient complained
of a two week history of vague left hip pain. AP
and frog-leg lateral radiographs revealed a grade 1 left slipped capital
femoral epiphysis. He had an in situ pinning of his left hip the next day
without complications
